Portsmouth Mayor Deaglan McEachern endorsed Stefany Shaheen in New Hampshire’s first congressional district primary, citing her record of making a real difference for people as a small business owner, health care advocate and while serving on the City Council and as Chair of the Police Commission. While visiting local small businesses in Portsmouth on Wednesday morning, McEachern and Shaheen discussed how to strengthen New Hampshire’s economy by repealing the Trump Administration tariffs.
“Stefany is the kind of thoughtful, credible and serious leader we need representing New Hampshire in Congress. She will protect health care, tackle the rising costs of housing, energy, and groceries, and end these destructive tariffs that are having a crushing impact on local businesses and our tourism economy,” said Mayor Deaglan McEachern. “I’ve known Stefany for a long time. When she is determined to do something, she never gives up. That passion and persistence are exactly what we need right now.”
“People in Portsmouth know Mayor McEachern works hard for our community. He is both accessible and responsive to concerns and has a vision for Portsmouth. I am proud to have his support. Having the Mayor and other Portsmouth community leaders put their trust in me is a responsibility I don’t take lightly,” said Stefany Shaheen. “I will work tirelessly for New Hampshire families and small businesses struggling with the uncertainty, cruelty and chaos caused by Donald Trump. We cannot allow Republicans in Congress to take healthcare away from kids, seniors, and veterans. No one fights harder than a mom for her kids and that’s how I will fight for all New Hampshire’s families.”
In 2013, Stefany Shaheen was elected to serve on the Portsmouth City Council, where she helped tackle a parking shortage that was threatening local businesses. When PFAS contamination was discovered in the local water supply, she helped to ensure screening for those exposed to the dangerous forever chemicals and served on the Community Taskforce providing oversight of the clean-up. As Chair of the Portsmouth Police Commission, she advocated for resources to protect public safety.
In addition to Mayor McEachern, Mary Carey Foley, Testing for Pease Founder Andrea Amico, Portsmouth Police Chief Mark Newport, former Seacoast State Senators Tom Sherman and Jon Morgan as well as a number of local small business owners and community leaders are supporting Stefany’s campaign.
Since launching her campaign with more than 200 supporters at launch events across the district, Stefany Shaheen has been talking with people about their most pressing concerns, and sharing with them her determination to make a difference for every family in the First Congressional District.
