Stefany Shaheen Shares Plans To Strengthen Medicare Ahead of RiverWoods Forum

Earlier, Shaheen Speaks With Manchester Seniors About Bernie Sanders’ Legislation Extending Medicare Coverage To Vision, Dental and Hearing

Portsmouth, NH — Ahead of a candidate forum at the RiverWoods Retirement Community, Stefany Shaheen is calling for closing coverage gaps in Medicare and halting a Trump Administration plan to use AI to deny coverage and care to people on Medicare. Shaheen, a health care advocate and entrepreneur running for Congress in New Hampshire’s first district, will join seniors in Manchester earlier in the day and share her plans for improving health care.

Legislation led by Senator Bernie Sanders to provide dental, vision, and hearing care under Medicare has already been introduced and could be acted upon now. It would cover oral health services, including cleanings, treatments, and dentures; hearing aids and aural rehabilitation services; as well as vision care, routine eye exams, and eyeglasses.

The Trump Administration announced plans to use AI to deny coverage and care to people on Medicare – that would affect more than 350,000 Granite Staters.

“Nearly two-thirds of seniors need dental, vision, or hearing care, which Medicare does not currently cover. This year, 70,000 Granite Staters fell into this coverage gap when they were dropped by their current Medicare Advantage plan, and Donald Trump is only making it worse with his plan to let AI dictate Medicare coverage, instead of doctors,” said Stefany Shaheen.  “We can – and must – do better. Trump and RFK Jr. dismantling health care is what motivated me to run, but just undoing their damage isn’t enough. That’s why I’ve shared steps that can be taken immediately to reduce costs, improve care, and put patients over profits.”

Stefany Shaheen believes fundamental change is needed in health care, but waiting years for progress isn’t an option. She’s outlined action, in addition to the Sanders legislation, that can make a difference for people right now, including:

  • Breaking up the corporate monopolies taking over the entire health care system, buying up hospitals, primary care practices, pharmacies, everything, and taking a cut at every stop, raising costs for all of us.

  • Stopping big drug companies from ripping off Americans by charging more than they do in other countries for the same medicines. Granite Staters are paying two, three, or even four times more for medicine than Canadians.

  • Prevent AI and insurance companies from making decisions that should be made by doctors.
